- create an account using email and password, Sign in with Apple, or supported third-party sign-in providers
- create or join a household using invite codes and join approval flows
- create, review, accept, and propose household rules
- create, assign, rotate, complete, verify, pass, pick up, edit, and delete chores
- receive activity updates and push notifications related to household activity
- manage profile information and account settings
Service Changes
We may add, remove, modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, to the extent permitted by law.
Important Limitation
The Service is provided for organization and communication only. It is not legal advice, property-management software, emergency-response software, or a substitute for independent agreements among roommates, family members, landlords, or tenants.
4. Households and Shared Spaces
House Rules is designed for shared household use. When you create or join a household, you understand that information you submit within that household may be visible to other household members.
This may include:
- your name and profile details
- household rules and rule proposals
- chore assignments, chore notes, pass reasons, verification actions, and proposal activity
- household activity records generated through use of the Service
Household Decisions
Household decisions, approvals, proposals, and disputes are made by users, not by us. We are not responsible for disputes between roommates, family members, household members, guests, landlords, tenants, or other third parties.
5. User Content
What Counts as User Content
You may submit content to the Service, including profile information, household names, rules text, suggestions, chore titles, notes, pass reasons, and other related content ("User Content").
Ownership
You retain ownership of your User Content.
License to Us
By submitting User Content through the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, adapt, modify, display, transmit, and otherwise use that User Content as necessary to operate, provide, maintain, improve, secure, and support the Service.
Your Promises About User Content
You represent and warrant that:
- you have the right to submit the User Content
- your User Content does not violate any law or third-party right
- your User Content does not contain material that is unlawful, abusive, infringing, or otherwise prohibited by these Terms
Removal of Content
We may remove, restrict, review, or preserve User Content if we believe it violates these Terms, applicable law, or the safety or integrity of the Service.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You may not:
- use the Service in a way that violates any law or regulation
- harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, exploit, or harm another person
- submit unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, hateful, obscene, infringing, or otherwise objectionable content

- interfere with another user's use of the Service

- attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, device, network, or part of the Service
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract source code from the Service except to the extent permitted by applicable law

When an account is deleted, we will delete or de-identify personal data where required and feasible. We may retain limited information where retention is required or permitted by law, needed for security or fraud prevention, needed for dispute resolution, or necessary to maintain the integrity of shared household records.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service and its original content, features, functionality, software, design, branding, and materials other than User Content are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual property and other applicable laws.
Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Service.

- household content, chore records, proposals, or notifications will always be accurate, complete, or timely
13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, GOODWILL, OR USE ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IF YOU PAID US FEES SPECIFICALLY FOR THE SERVICE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE.

- your User Content
- your violation of these Terms
- your violation of any law or third-party right
15. Suspension and Termination

- your conduct harms other users or the Service
- we are required to do so by law or to protect the Service or third parties

19. Apple App Store Additional Terms
If you downloaded the iOS app through the Apple App Store, you acknowledge and agree that:
- These Terms are between you and us, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the Service or its content.
- Your license to use the iOS app is limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control, subject to the App Store usage rules.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for the Service.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no warranty obligation with respect to the Service.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the Service, including product liability claims, claims that the Service fails to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any third-party claim that the Service or your use of the Service infringes that third party's intellectual property rights.
